Preparedness Podcast Episode #8 – Networking

Here are the accompanying show notes for Episode 8 of The Preparedness Podcast.  You can go to PrepCast.info for links to the podcast, or you can find it at the bottom of this article.

Networking

What is networking?

  • networking is contacting like minded individuals in an effort to increase your survival chances and/or make life easier.
  • networking and finding the right people can be a terrific force multiplier.
  • networking can be an essential morale booster. Many of us that are into preparedness have a fairly hard time finding anyone we can talk with, in a serious manner. Being able to have a contact that is capable, and is concerned about the same things that you are is a wonderful thing. One of the most common quotes you’ll find from people that do this is that their new contact seems just like an old friend – tells you something about the feeling and importance of developing contacts like this.

Who do you network with? (more…)

If you’re like me, graphs and graphics help in making an impression. You want to know, somewhat at least, what’s happened so far, and where the trend is going?

Where you should be with your preparedness plan

In the last podcast, we talked about where you should be with your preparedness plan.  This is geared towards people that are newer into preparedness, but it’s also a good review for us old-timers, too.  For me, it’s easier to break up the overall plan into smaller segments, like categories.  Many of the things that need to be accomplish will overlap these categories, no matter how you break it up, but the main point is to write it down so you can focus on it.

First thing to do is settle on a target goal.  This target is how long you can be self-sufficient for without leaving your home.  We’re just going to use 2 weeks as the target for this discussion, but it could be whatever you think you can achieve.  Just remember not to try to accomplish more than you can realistically accomplish

(NOTE: On Jan 26th, I added a bullet point to Shelter, Fire and Warmth for Alternative Heating)

Don’t you just love countdowns?

Well folks, only a few days to go now until the President-Elect becomes the President.

As usual there’s plenty of talk about what’s going to happen, and plenty of talk as to what Executive Orders are going to come down the pike when Obama gets seated.  Many of the orders that will be written will be dealing with neutering decisions made by the last president, and some of the orders will have huge and immediate impacts.

Environment, energy, personal rights are some that are on the list.  Specifics are very hard to find, so I guess it’ll be a wait and see approach…

A quick overview from the Washington Post

“Nothing like having a good plan…”

The operative phrase for the day is “Buy it cheap, stack it deep”.

$25,000,000,000 Loaf of Bread

That’s Twenty-Five BILLION dollars for one loaf of bread. That’s what hyperinflation looks like.  To buy two loaves of bread in Zimbabwe, right now, you would need a $50 Billion Note.

Zimbabwe’s central bank will introduce a $50 billion note — enough to buy just two loaves of bread — as a way of fighting cash shortages amid spiraling inflation.

When the government issued a $10 billion note just three weeks ago, it bought 20 loaves of bread. That note now can purchase less than half of one loaf.

Folks, with the Federal Government printing and spending Trillions of dollars in the past few months, hyperinflation in the US is a very real possibility.
