We Are Being Lied To

The unemployment numbers are worse than we’re being told.  They told us that there were 651,000 new unemployed people in February. Everyone is quoting that number, and while that’s bad, the truth is worse.

There were 851,000 jobs lost last month; a full 200,000 more than what is being reported.  Thats’ 12.5 MILLION people out of work.

Check out this PDF and see for yourself.

You’ll see that NONFARM PAYROLL EMPLOYMENT fell by 651,000, but read the second paragraph:

“The number of unemployed persons increased by 851,000 to 12.5 million in February, and the unemployment rate rose to 8.1 percent.”

It seems like that could be a typo, but when you look at Table A, you see that it is 851,000.

Oh, and the REAL unemployment rate is not 8.1%.  Try 14.8% (see for yourself).

Now you may think, oh, that’s for the people who have no electricity – but not at all! There is a new switch on the rice cooker, made from wood – and a fan installed in the bottom! When you put a piece of burning wood from the normal fire (next to the rice cooker) into the hole, and fill it up with charcoal, and switch “ON” , it takes about 20 seconds to have a perfect fire… really amazing. They call this thing “pressure cooker”.

US recession ‘may last into 2010′ – US Federal Reserve chief Ben Bernanke has warned Congress that without the right policies from the government, the US recession could last into 2010.  (Ed. ‘Shovels hit the ground’ on stimulus project, Obama says – President Obama said Tuesday that the country already is “seeing shovels hit the ground” on the first infrastructure repair project funded through the Transportation Department’s share of the $787 billion stimulus bill.  He said the project will support 60 jobs. “And that’s how we’re going to get the country back on its feet,” LaHood added. (Ed. Note – $787 BILLION and all we can see to do is create 60 jobs?  El Presidente has just redefined inept. We’re going to need those shovels for shoveling something else.)

When I first set up this website, I wasn’t sure how I wanted it set up.  You’d think after 9 years in the web development biz that I would have already known how I wanted things set up, but I didn’t.  One of the things I screwed up was the RSS feed.  Anyway, it’s fixed now.

Not on My Watch, Oath Keepers

I stumbled upon the Oath Keepers’ website and was compelled to pass in on to our readers and listeners.  I will let their statement explain who they are, it does a better job than I could.  This is powerful stuff.  It gives me hope to read and hear it from others.

Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving military, reserves, National Guard, peace officers, and veterans who swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic … and meant it.

Our oath is to the Constitution, not to the President, and that oath will be kept. We won’t “just follow orders.”

Below is our declaration of orders we will NOT obey because we will consider them unconstitutional (and thus unlawful) and immoral violations of the natural rights of the people. Such orders would be acts of war against the American people by their own government, and thus acts of treason. We will not make war against our own people. We will not commit treason. We will defend the Republic.

Here is a list of their Oaths:  There are explanations behind each Oath on their site

1. We will NOT obey any order to disarm the American people.

2. We will NOT obey any order to conduct warrantless searches of the American people, their homes, vehicles, papers, or effects – such as warrantless house-to house searches for weapons or persons.

3. We will NOT obey any order to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to trial by military tribunal.

4. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state, or to enter with force into a state, without the express consent and invitation of that state’s legislature and governor.

5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty and declares the national government to be in violation of the compact by which that state entered the Union.

6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.

7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.

8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control” during any emergency, or under any other pretext. We will consider such use of foreign troops against our people to be an invasion and an act of war.

9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies, under any emergency pretext whatsoever.

10. We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

Just In Time inventory showing its weakness

I stopped by Walmart in my local area on a whim to check for ammo and I wasn’t surprised to find nothing more than shotgun shells and odd-calibre stuff.  An employee stopped my to ask if I needed help and we began talking about the ammo and shortages everyone seems to be experiencing.  The employee went further and told me about how they hadn’t even had a truck arrive the day before and how is caused all kinds of problems for the store and then pointed to the shelves and explained that while there was still much on the shelves, many of the common items had been spread around to take up empty space, while others were just plain out.

I thanked the employee for his time and took a stroll around the store to see this for myself, the guy was right, the shelves were spare or compeltely bare of some items.  Things that I noticed as being the most affected was ammo (of course), snacks items, beverages, food staples, frozen items, household (soap, laundry detergent, etc), stationary, and writing supplies.  I didn’t check the hygeine and personal care isles, nor did walk through the medication section.  A lot of this all fits into the catagory of common every day items we use.

What does all this mean?  regarding ammo, demand has been up for sometime and I wasn’t surprised to find little available.  As to the rest I’ll go out on a limb and assume for the sake of my argument that demand has remained steady.  So what’s the deal?  Well, it all comes down to supply and how that supply gets to stores to be sold.  If you remember Greg’s article about the Baltic Dry index, you’ll remember that shipping rates have essentially dropped to zero which caused large numbers of ships to be parked, This is because trade is down–no one is shipping anything.

All that brings me to my last point, Just-In-Time or JIT shipping.  The link can explain JIT better than I, but essentially it’s an inventory business model that brings goods to a store just as it’s needed, hence the terms Just-In-Time.  This system is all and good until you disrupt any part of the system.  A disruption in supply, demand, transport, anything will result is a rippling effect that can have far reaching results depending on the specific disruption.

Why do I prep?  The supplies that I need can very easily, in the space of hours, become unavailble.  It may be a minor inconveinence until supply is disrupted or transport is disrupted for anylength of time.  Demand skyrockets, prices skyrockets, people become desperate, desperate people do desperate things.

Right now we are seeing the ripples started months ago buy a drop of in trade (transport) because of a drop off in supply, and a decrease (world wide) demand.  Now things are becoming scarcer, it subtle now, but can easily and quicly become more pronounced.

Empty containers clog South Korean Port; Container ships sit idle; Idle container fleet grows.
