This weekend I went to the local Honeyville Farms retail store to pick up some items. When I was last there a couple of weeks ago, the 50 lb. bags of wheat were $13.49. I was quite shocked to see that they had risen to $16.99. That’s a 26% increase in the price in only a few weeks! I’m hoping that this is their new price for 2011 and not something we’ll be seeing every few weeks.

The Preparedness Podcast – Episode 94 – Strategic Preparedness Plan
In this episode, I discuss the Strategic preparedness plan that I’m using to get ready for the dollar collapse and the coming depression.
(Listen to The Preparedness Podcast on any of your favorite audio players. Find us in iTunes here: Preparedness Podcast iTunes Link or go to PrepCast.info for direct links to the audio files.)
- Be true to yourself.
- Know why you’re prepping and what you’re prepping for. Don’t let anyone distract you from getting ready.
- Stock up on everything; especially food and sundries.
- The coming depression is going to be a long term event; there’s little chance that you’ll be able to stock up and store everything you will need for the duration. Instead, stocking up now will allow you to buy things while they are still cheap, which should (hopefully) allow you to take advantage of periods when prices are lower (like sales, etc.) and avoid having to buy when prices are high.
- Get out of debt.
- Your income will not go up at the same rate as inflation.
- Buy silver and gold.
- As the dollar collapses, precious metals will increase in value. Don’t sit on too much cash.
- Acquire farmland and/or plant edible plants around your home.
- In all depression and hyperinflation events, food is the biggest concern. Having the ability to grow your own food is a big thing.
- Educate yourself.
- How to grow food; cook food from scratch; make and mend clothes, repair things, etc. Learn how to do things the way our grandparents used to do things.
- Form a prep community.
- Family or good friends, develop a group of people you can rely on to get together and help each other out.
- Think outside the box
- Solutions are often found when you’re not thinking like everyone else.
BBC News – Pakistan facing ’serious’ threat of epidemic disease
Even though the last pandemic turned out to be nearly a non-event, that doesn’t mean that we’ve escaped the reality that it will happen. It’s only a matter of time before we’re hit with another global spread of a pandemic disease. Use the lessons of this past even and get prepared for it now, while the gear is available (and cheap).

BBC News – Russia ban on grain export begins
A common recurring theme on the Preparedness Podcast is the availability of food. With the pending economic crisis and the food shortages that are coming, I hope you’re stocking up now while food is plentiful and cheap!

BBC News – Russia ban on grain export begins
Russia has imposed a ban on grain exports until the end of the year, after a severe drought and a spate of wildfires devastated crops.
Russia is one of the world’s biggest producers of wheat, barley and rye, and the ban is likely to see bread prices rise in places like the Middle East.
The measures are designed to keep domestic food prices under control.
But agriculture ministry data has revealed that this year’s crop is unlikely to meet even domestic demand.
BBC News – Call to improve password security
Hopefully, no one reading this blog is foolish enough to use simple passwords. Even so, if you have a habit of using one password for every website and/or your passwords are simple, you should really rethink your digital security. Personally, I use 1Password to keep track of all my website passwords, and I use its built-in password generator to create random passwords. Since it keeps track of them for me, I don’t have to worry about remembering them (it will fill it in automatically for you – yeah, it sounds insecure, but it isn’t). Sites more prone to hacking (like Facebook) get passwords of maximum length and complexity.

BBC News – Call to improve password security
Researchers say the growing number of processors on graphics cards will soon make it trivial for them to crack short passwords.
A password of seven characters or less will soon be “hopelessly inadequate” they claim.
The researchers suggest passwords should be at least 12 characters long to be safe.
