Swine flu, or Influenza A (H1N1), is still a concern. I know that it might not have seem that way if the only place you get your news is from TV/Radio, but it is still a serious and potentially bad situation. I’m surprised that the WHO hasn’t yet rasied the Pandemic Flu Alert to Level 6, which is the highest and signifies a full global pandemic, as Swine flu is still spreading throughout the globe.
This current Swine Flu turned out to be a very weak strain of flu, at least so far. While that sounds good, you should keep in mind that, viruses can mutate and though it may start off as weak, it can mutate into a much deadlier strain and wreak havoc on populations.
MAKE NO MISTAKE – it’s not over yet. Only the ignorant are thinking that this is no big deal. This strain of Influenza A (H1N1) will be around with us forever, but no one knows what the future strains of it will be.
You should look at this as a dress rehearsal for pandemic flu. In the last 10 years, we had SARS, Bird flu and now this Swine flu. SARS and Bird Flu are still potential issues. SARS is floating out there someplace, and if the bird flu ever mutates to a point where it can be easily transmitted from human to human, that has the potential to be a “slate-wiper.” And we don’t know how this current flu will end – let’s all hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you realize that this is not over and you should continue preparing for it. We’ve had the ’shot across the bow’ and it’s up to you to respond appropriately. Take this time to do the simple and inexpensive things to get prepared. While supplies may be low now, they will quickly restock as this threat has fallen off the radar of the public’s attention. Take this time to implement a plan to acquire the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), especially if you’re on a budget. Do research on Pandemic Flu so you know what the difference is and what to expect.
Don’t be lulled to sleep by the inattention that this is getting. Survival is the Art of Being Prepared.
